Jon Gorospe | “Crossing the Curtain” | 21 February – 16 May 2026

The “Crossing the Curtain” project by Jon Gorospe (Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, 1986) continues a visual investigation into boundaries: those that separate, filter, and at the same time allow passage. As a continuation of “Crossing the Threshold” (Centro de Arte Alcobendas, 2025), this exhibition shifts its focus to the curtain as both a symbolic and material figure: a surface that does not close, but rather veils. The curtain emerges here as a space of tension between the visible and the concealed, between what endures and what is on the verge of disappearing.

The screen prints from the “Veiled City” series capture fragments of a city in the process of disappearance: partial architectures, traces, and urban remnants that survive through our tenacity. These images enter into dialogue with photographs of curtains belonging to sites of performance in public space, ephemeral structures that transform the everyday into a stage. In this intersection, the city is presented as a theatrical territory, where urban memory is covered, displaced, and reconfigured.

Crossing the curtain means accepting the unstable condition of the contemporary urban space. The exhibition invites viewers to inhabit the moment just before revelation, when the image still holds the possibility of what has been and what might be. In this “in-between”, the work positions itself as an act of observation and resistance, an attempt to make visible that which, even when veiled, insists on remaining.

This exhibition runs concurrently with his “Urban Morphologies” institutional exhibition -curated by Alejandro Castellote– at the Tabakalera, San Sebastián, Spain from March 27th to June 28th, 2026.
