Group Exhibition | Ain’t that just like me? | ¿No es eso típico de mí? | Festival Off PhotoEspaña | 30 May – 18 July 2026

Next May 30th we open a group exhibition featuring Roger Ballen (New York, USA, 1950), Elina Brotherus (Helsinki, Finland, 1972), Julia Fullerton-Batten (Bremen, Germany, 1970), Ellen Kooi (Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, 1962), Cristobal Ascencio (Guadalajara, Mexico, 1988), Emma Á. Marty (Madrid, Spain, 2000), YunPing Li (Hubei, China, 1998), and Ignacio Navas (Tudela, Spain, 1989), within the framework of the PHotoESPAÑA Festival 2026, and in the venues of both our gallery and El Local.

To reconstruct from what already exists: a place, a body, or a situation that forms part of a prior reality. Inspired by the concept of “response-ability” developed by Donna Haraway in her book “Staying with the Trouble”, this exhibition proposes the idea of responding with sensitivity and awareness to the current challenges affecting both human society and its environments. It is about rethinking our ways of relating and producing, especially in a context where the physical and the digital intertwine.

“Ain’t that just like me? | ¿No es eso típico de mí?” becomes a gesture of intimate recognition: the moment when the conflict ceases to be external and begins to reside within oneself. The problem is assumed, made one’s own, and in that appropriation a singular way of resisting adversity emerges. This exhibition brings together works that address trauma and contemporary concerns through visually driven narratives rooted in photography that engage with other disciplines such as performance, photogrammetry, and video. The exhibited artists construct new devices to re-explore native landscapes and bodies transformed by contemporary issues that run through them: family bonds in crisis and transitory identities, the impossibility of motherhood, gentrification and isolation, and the degradation and preservation of the environment.

Furthermore, this exhibition is conceived as an intergenerational connection project, aiming to strengthen ties between emerging and established artists through dialogue between two representative spaces: El Local and the Camara Oscura art gallery. Together, both entities foster an exchange of perspectives that revisits discourses and modes of production, paving the way toward the future of the image in the world of contemporary photography.
