According to Cristóbal Ascencio (Guadalajara, Mexico, 1988), a “sample library” is a collection of samples—stored files that derive their value not from standing alone, but from what can be done with them. In image and 3D software, these consist of photographs, textures, materials, or standalone models—assets available and open to repeated manipulation.
This exhibition operates in the same way: it brings together pieces that share not a single theme, but a shared working method—samples from a repertoire of operations performed on the digital image, treating it as if it were physical matter. Compressing it down to the pixel, fossilizing it in three dimensions, weaving it into a physical mesh, or corrupting its code until an error reveals something hidden beneath the surface.
He is interested in images not as faithful windows onto reality, but as fragile, manipulable containers where the very process of creation is part of the message. Each series stretches the medium in a different direction, and together they function as a small atlas of the ways we currently produce, store, share, and distort what we see.
